April 28th, 2011 - Portfolio show

Ooh Là Là Illustration Show in Toronto - 2nd edition 

Illustration Québec was proud to host the second edition of the portfolio event Ooh Là Là Illustration Show in Toronto on April 28th 2011. The evening allowed 40 illustrators from Quebec to present their creations to the Toronto market.

This was a unique opportunity for the professionals to discover and meet with illustrators, recognized or emerging, chosen from a jury of professionals from the city of Toronto. It was in a relaxed atmosphere that participants had the chance to present their work and meet with professional publishers, editors and graphic designers. The evening took place at the very artistic and trendy Gladstone Hotel.

Books, reading and images from Yayo 

During the 16e journée mondiale du livre et du droit d'auteur, Yayo shared his world by presenting his creative process of his latest children's album I am the book. From design sketch to the final work, Yayo described his interpretation of a book as an object. 

I am the book is a collective of poems celebrating the joy of reading. It is through his illustrations that Yayo allows the open book to become a whale's tail, a treasure chest, a raft adrift, with emphasis on the transformative potential of words.

Internet and social media as promotional tools for artists

Illustration Québec was please to host the conference : Internet and social media as promotional tools for artists by David Chabot, marketing consultant with over 15 years of experience in the field of new media and a member of the IQ’s 2010 Board of directors. The conference took place at Illustration Québec on Tuesday, April 12th 2011, between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. 

Mr. Chabot addressed various topics related to the artist’s web promotion. The conference was conducted like a workshop, where people were ask to share their experiences.

Introduction to social media and marketing tactics to promote yourself;

 March 29th 2011 - Les écrivains de demain

The unveiling of the 13 winners and illustrators was host in our gallery.

Each winning texts will be illustrated and the composition will evolve into a beautiful color book. The competition took place during events of La Semaine du Français at La Commision Scolaire de Montréal. 

The young students were very happy to meet the illustrator who will illustrate their text. They discussed their ideas with them and eagerly await the book launch in June this year. To be continued ...

December 16th, 2010 - Illustrators' Christmas Party

To celebrate the end of the year, Illustration Quebec held its first Illustrators' Christmas Party. The evening allowed members to come and celebrate the 2010 year all together. It is under a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that we greeted the members for 6 p.m. until late at L '!llustre Gallery.

The evening was hosted by the band Les Mauvaises Mines, a band composed of illustrators who have done well and reveled some dancers!

November 19th - Portfolio event

Illustration Québec seized the occasion of the Salon du Livre de Montréal to present a morning portfolio to publishers of children's literature. It is during the professionals' day, that these were invited to meet with twenty selected illustrators in a room reserved for this purpose on the mezzanine level of the Salon on November 19th between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. 

This event was a great opportunity for illustrators who have little or no experience in children's book publishers to meet with publishers and art directors. 

Participation criteria: 

Have published less than three (3) children's books (the school and book covers are not included) 

Send a PDF file (max 5 images)

November 4th, 2010 - Directory's Launch

Illustration Quebec had celebrated the grand launch of its new Directory N.22, on November 4th 2011. During the evening, we took the opportunity to introduce our future website and its new features that is now available to illustrators and professionals. Over 120 people came to receive their copy of the directory, designed by Feed agency. The evening event was punctuated by a performance a dancer, Louis Guillemette, which presented in a unique and fun way, the pages from the directory and its poster.

October 28th, 2010 - 13 Grourous et moi 

It was during this evening that 30 illustrators had the opportunity to present their portfolios to 13 professionals. These were art directors, editors, graphic designers and others working in the communications industry for many years. The illustrators share their work in order to receive advise and critic about their styles, their approach and the reality of the market. 

This activity was conducted in collaboration with the SDGQ. It is in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that the participants could, in turn, meet with the experts. 

This evening is always a great success. The Selection of participants has also been very difficult. We unfortunately had to refuse several illustrators in order to maintain a limited number of participants to enable them to meet as many professionals as possible.
