Becoming a member

Being a member means believing in the strength and the influence of a group. The artists are united in their struggle for the recognition of their profession and for the improvement of their work conditions. To this end, all Illustration Quebec's members adhere to its code of ethics.We believe that Illustration Quebec contributes effectively to improve working conditions in Quebec illustrators by providing their member a wealth of useful informations and by giving them preofessional advice and training. In addition, the association has employee trained to provide support and services which covering all aspects of this wonderful artwork.

Member advantages

 

All members are welcome to participate in the various activities organized and offered by Illustration Québec. They may also become involved in one of the Association's committees, even the board of directors. The president's role, however, can only be filled by a professional member. For more information, refer to our Services and activities section.

 

Illustration Quebec (IQ) signed in 2012 an agreement with the Regroupement des artistes en arts visuels (RAAV). This agreement is the recognition of professional illustrators members of Illustration Quebec as professional members of RAAV. For more details contact us.

 

Membership categories

 

STUDENT

Initial registration: $ 85 + (tx) = $ 97,73 

Renewal: $ 75 + (tx)  = $ 86,23  

 

JUNIOR

Initial registration: $ 160 + (tx)  = $ 183,96

Renewal: $ 150 + (tx)  = $ 172,46

 

PROFESSIONAL

Initial registration $ 160 + (tx)  = $ 183,96

CORPORATE

Initial registration: $ 310 + $ 15,50 (tx)  = $ 356,42

STUDENT

This group means any student in a related field. He must give evidence proving his student status. He is entitled to all the services the association provides its members, while benefiting from a reduced fee.

 

JUNIOR

It means any illustrator with less than two years experience or who do not qualify for professional membership. The junior member is entitled to vote. He is entitled to all services and activities that the Association provides its members.

 

PROFESSIONAL(*)

He must work as an illustrator full or part time. To become a professional member, he must be recognized by a panel of professional members. The professional member is entitled to vote. He is entitled to all services and activities that the Association provides its members. He is the only one which have access to the Chair of the Board of Directors.

 

CORPORATE

This group includes any grouping, organization or company involved or interested in the field of illustration. The corporate member may be represented by one (1) person at the meeting or the board of directors. He can access to the professional membership. The corporate member has the right to vote. He is entitled to all services and activities that the Association provides its members.

 

(*) Professional member status does not confer professional artist status under the terms of the Act respecting the professional status of artists. However, it does meet the industry's criteria according to Illustration Québec.

 

To be a professional member - A jury appointed by the Board of directors will evaluate the aspirant's professionalism. To do this, the artist need to provide a PDF of 10 different pieces published (self-promotion pieces are not eligible). It is important to identify each piece. Example: «illustration for the magazine L'actualité - September 2010 edition».

 

The following criteria is used by the jury in assessing application for professional's membership

  • Demonstrate at least two (2) years work experience in the field of illustration;
  • Have a minimum of ten (10) different pieces published (and / or broadcast) of its work. The promotional items will not be considered in the total;
  • Having reached a professional level of technical quality;
  • Be recognized in the illustration field, which means, having participated in publications and / or participated in advertising campaigns or publiblications noted and /or be recognized by his peers as a professional, within the meaning of section of the Act S-32.01.
